Book Forums - Your book forums and community resources!
NaNoWriMo - NaNoWriMo stands for "National Novel Writing Month", which begins November 1 every year. Thousands of writers gather together to voluntarily put themselves through a month of rigorous paces despite life circumstances, all for the love of writing. This is an excellent community of both published authors and freelance writers, and a great source for writing, editing, and publishing tips.
WritersNet - An excellent information source for writers looking to get into the publishing industry. There's a list for everything: Agents, Editors, Publishers, Resources, and discussion with fellow writers. There are great tips for distinguishing scams from the real thing, and shady agents from decent ones.
In the Library Reviews - Excellent reviews by excellent reviewers. They cover all genres and are just as helpful to authors as they are to readers. Definitely worth your time.
Reviews
Reader Views - New books are reviewed by volunteers to be placed on Amazon.com as well as their website. A great source by readers, for readers.
Authors
Jayel Gibson - Fantasy author extraordinaire! Her works are imaginative and original, and her characters are all vivid and intriguing to read about. Jayel herself is a friendly person you can approach, and she also runs a writers' workshop for all of those curious about the process of writing and publishing a novel.
Orson Scott Card - Wow. OSC never fails to inspire me, and he is one of the handful of authors in my (rather short) lifespan that I've collected books from because his name is on it. I truly respect and admire his ability to see and understand people with such piercing clarity, and that ability shines through his work.
Kristen Britain - Author of Green Rider and First Rider's Call, Kristen Britain tells one of the best adventure stories I've ever read. She is fairly new to the scene, with these two novels being the only two she has written so far. I look forward to the rest of her writing career!
Writers' Groups
League of Amazing Writers - Talk about personality. This lively group lets in everyone: reviewers, authors, readers, whoever loves books and wants to join. You have to be 18 years of age or older since this is a mature crowd.
Conventions
Book Expo America - BEA is the gathering place of the publishing industry. There are people from every division of the industry, and every possible publication - even calendars. BEA showcases new books and upcoming books later in the year from little-known authors to big ones. This is NOT open to the public, so aspiring authors must get in through some sort of representation, or have a manuscript handy to talk to some folks there.
Comic-Con - While this is not books persay, this is still publishing. Many authors attend for networking... and for the pretty, pretty art.
