Ith'rya
The concept of ith’rya I designed was originally magic based on willpower. Elise and Stephanie were going to have very strong willpowers (which stayed with their characters), providing them potentially limitless power. The idea evolved again when I had the desire to make "logical magic" - something that was more like a mysterious, scientific energy with exact limitations, much like physics.
The Laws
- Ith’rya is an invisible energy that exists in everything that exists, interconnecting between all beings and worlds.
- Aside from innate ith’rya, ith’rya can be found in crystallized forms produced from the worlds that have the capacity to, such as Arhka.
- Innate ith’rya can’t be used against the natural ith’rya in the environment. (i.e. creating lightning underwater, or creating ice in a heated environment.)
- Innate ith’rya can be used in conjunction with the ith’rya of another element, as long as it doesn’t break Law 3. (i.e. innate ith’rya combined with ith’rya in the air for flight.)
- Use of willpower, plus natural talent for using ith’rya efficiently, allows a limited amount of control over ith’rya where another will is absent.
- Spikes of emotion driving willpower grant temporary power boosts, allowing greater control of ith’rya.
- The amount of ith’rya that exists varies among individuals, species, and worlds.
- Ith’rya naturally replenishes over time, and replenishes faster while dreaming, meditating, or entering a trance.
- Ith’rya that is spent beyond a being’s inherent capacity before it can be replenished is taken out of his or her total lifespan. (For the immortals, they have a double hit of physically aging and shrinking their total capacity each time until, after too many times, they kill themselves.)
- Wild ith’rya is the energy that exists beyond the ordered universe, making it an exception to these basic properties.
