About this Site

On November 11, 2005, dragonwriter.com went live as the official site for the Arhka Chronicles. The purpose of dragonwriter.com is to be both informative and entertaining while covering a range of topics on the Chronicles, on future works, and on societal issues addressed in each of my novels. Beyond that, I discuss working with the publishing industry and my experiences of being an author to assist other aspiring authors.

This site is solely operated by me, Heather Hayashi, the author of the Chronicles. Website design has been an interest of mine for years. I began at the age of 15, in 1998, back when 2 MB of free webspace was considered a massive amount of space to use. After teaching myself HTML, I went on to learn graphic design in Paint Shop Pro. Personal situations prevented me from maintaining a website for long - until now. While I only use my web design skills for personal use, I continue to sharpen my skills for the purpose of providing a more personal information site directly from me to my visitors.

About Me

I have been writing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. Early in my childhood, I had an illness over the course of a few years that shaped the sort of hobbies I gravitated toward. I had surgery at the age of 6 and made a full recovery, but I loved the hobbies I had so much that they remained a steadfast fixture in my life. Drawing was the main focus until my 3rd grade teacher inspired the writer in me. She divided our class up during English lessons according to our level of reading and writing. We wrote stories in my group, and I quickly became addicted to writing and illustrating short stories.

As the years passed, my writing blossomed on its own to fill notebooks and computer documents. By 12 I was already well on my way to writing full length novels, but it would be many more years before I realized it could be a career. No one, including myself, thought being an author would be worth the risk it'd take to get started. I was certain I'd be a medical doctor.

By the age of 22, after several life changes and perspective changes, after some growing and soul-searching, I decided it was a risk worth taking. Thus began another life change: this one.
